4 of these Allen cylinder head nuts are required to fasten one cylinder head to the engine block.
24 of these cylinder head nuts are required per engine for all the vehicles above equipped with a 6-cylinder engine; the Porsche 912 from 1969 only requires 8 of these nuts.
Additionally, the same Allen type nut is also used to fasten the starter motor to the transmission crankcase in the following vehicles (including those with manual and Sportomatic transmissions) :

2 of these Allen nuts are required to fasten the starter motor to the transmission crankcase in all the above vehicles EXCEPT for the 911 T-V Sportomatic which only requires a single Allen nut in this application.
For the Porsche 964 and 993, this Allen nut is used to fasten the starter motor to the transmission crankcase in Manual transmissions only (not Tiptronic).
