Double mechanical fuel pump with membrane for vehicles with Solex 40 mm. carburators, 911 (65-66)

Our double mechanical fuel pump with membrane is suitable for the following vehicle models that are equipped with Solex carburators:

    Porsche 911 2.0 L 95 KW / 125 HP. (1965-1966)

Notes:

The first Porsche 911’s with 2.0 L engines from 1965 and 1966 were fitted at the factory with Solex 40 PI-1 40 mm. carburators, which are fed with the double mechanical fuel pump that is bolted to the engine and driven by the left camshaft.

In the Solex carburator setup for the 911, an electrical fuel pump supplies fuel from the tank to a pair of float chambers, each located on one carburetor bank on each side of the engine. The double mechanical fuel pump circulates the fuel from the float chambers past the jets of the 6 Solex carburators. The fuel supply to the jets is regulated by a spillway on each carburetor. The excess fuel running past the jets through the spillways is recovered in the float chambers, only to be recirculated again by the double mechanical fuel pump. Therefore, the Solex carburators used on the first 911’s in 1965 and 1966 are overflow carburators and the double mechanical fuel pump is in fact a recirculating fuel pump.

The numerous difficulties in Solex carburator tuning which had the tendency to develop a flat spot in the power curve of the engine at around 2500 rpm. Will cause the Solex carburators to be replaced by Weber carburators by Porsche in February 1966.

Our double mechanical fuel pump is only used in vehicles with the Solex 40 PI-1 40 mm. overflow carburator setup.
