Exhaust valve guides are hollow tubes that are
pressure-driven into the cylinder head. They guide the valves very precisely in
their up and down motion in the cylinder head so that the valve heads are
always properly seated in the valve seats. Manufactured in a softer alloy than the valves
themselves, valve guides prevent accelerated wear of the valve stems. They also
transfer heat from the valve stem through to the cylinder head for better
cooling of the valve train.
