The idle control valve (idle speed adjuster)
receives information from temperature sensors on the engine and regulates the
volume of fresh air that is allowed into the throttle body. Thus it helps
maintain a uniform idle speed whether the engine is cold or hot. A defective
idle control valve can cause rich running or difficult start on your engine as
well as erratic idle fluctuations.
