With the appearance in 1973 of the 2.7 L Porsche Carrera in Europe, the increase in engine displacement and operating temperatures of Porsche motors rendered the use of copper-based valve guides impractical.

Valve guides provide valves with proper lubrication. When rebuilding your engine heads you should always include new valve guides.
