The intermediate shaft is mounted in the center of the engine case and drives both timing chains and the oil pump. The aluminium intermediate shaft gear which can be of either “N°0” size or “N°1” size (and is marked on the side with either a “0” or a “1”) is mated to your particular engine case.  It is very important that you use the appropriate size of intermediate shaft gear, as minute differences in gear size will increase gaps and play between parts and will result in accelerated wear and backlash if the incorrect size gear is used.

 

The majority of Porsche 911 engines are assembled with size 0 intermediate shaft gears. However some vehicle types were assembled using size 1 intermediate shafts. Please verify your intermediate shaft size before placing your order.
