This flat
rectangle-shaped filtering element is suitable for 911’s that were fitted with the
K-Jetronic fuel injection system. It is
also suitable for the 911 T-K from 1972-73 fitted with the Continuous Fuel
Injection System (CIS) (vehicle marketed only in North America).
JR air filters are made of 4 layers of cotton, which
are held together by two outer layers of steel wire mesh. To prevent rust, the
steel mesh is galvanized and plastic-coated, giving it a double protection. JR
filters are impregnated at the factory with a special type of oil which also
serves as an additional filtration element. Because of the oil, the dust is
retained on the outside surface of the filter. A simple rinse with intervals of
between 5 000 and 20 000 miles (7 000 and 30 000 km) depending on the driving
environment for your Porsche, is enough to bring back the JR cotton filter to
a“like new” condition.
A recent evaluation carried out under ISO 5001.1988 has shown that JR filters
do keep out 99% of airborne particles up to the 2.8 micron size (that is,
2.8/1000 of one millimetre). Moreover, the airflow through the JR reusable
cotton filter is far greater than the airflow which passes through the OEM
paper air filter.
