Our mass
airflow meter is used as original equipment on the following vehicle
models:
Porsche 986 Boxster 2.5 L 150
KW / 204 HP. (1997-1999) (1)
Porsche 996 Carrera 3.4 L 220
KW / 299 HP. (1998-1999) (1)
Porsche 996 GT3 3.6 L 265 KW /
360 HP. (1999-2001) (1)
Notes:
(1) Only for vehicles that are equipped with a cable-driven accelerator
pedal. For vehicles equipped with an electronically actuated accelerator pedal
(M620 option code) use the mass airflow meter reference 911.020048D or 911.020048E.
The air flow meter measures the mass of air that enters the engine. This
measurement is required so that the fuel injection system can keep the ratio of
air and fuel as close to optimum as possible (stoichiometric 14:1 ratio)
throughout the engine’s RPM range and under different engine loads. The air
flow meter is equipped with an airflow sensor, a moving flap connected to a
potentiometer. The potentiometer generates a variable signal that depends upon
how far the flap is opened. If this flap is damaged from an engine backfire or
becomes stuck, then the fuel injection computer will not be able to detect the
amount of air entering the engine. In this case engine performance and fuel
economy will be severely affected.
This mass airflow meter is placed
on the vehicle’s air filter housing.
