This pressure relief piston is placed on the left crankcase half on the lower front end. One oil pressure relief piston is used in the horizontal position at the bottom of the left crankcase half, and the other piston is used in the vertical position.
The oil pressure relief valve is a device built into the crank case to limit excess oil pressure inside the engine which could cause the engine gaskets to blow.
When replacing the oil pressure relief pistons on your engine crankcase, also replace the oil piston relief springs reference 912.010176.
